All-In-One Combo Adventures

Listen up, you active adventurer who seeks the perfect vacation.  Now you can paddle exciting whitewater a few days and pedal a mountain bike through pristine wilderness all on the same nine day trip.  How about hiking to majestic mountain lakes and vistas then diving into the renowned Salmon River on day four and begin a rafting trip down that river the next morning.  The spot is wild Idaho, the state that claims more wilderness than any other state in the lower 48.  The pristine River of no Return Wilderness offers the perfect setting for a variety of wilderness adventures.

Joe Tonsmeire of Wilderness River Outfitters in Salmon, Idaho has been running rafting trips on the Salmon River for nearly 30 years. Joe says, “Over the years we’ve noticed a definite trend towards folks wanting to combine various activities while on vacation to a special area like Idaho’s Wilderness.  We started running combo trips to satisfy this demand.”  It makes sense.  A rafting trip on the Main Salmon River is a major investment in time and money.  Why not spend a few more days and combine cycling, hiking or ranch stays with the river trip?  Wilderness River Outfitters offers several all-in-one vacations throughout the summer.

Salmon River Rafting/Nez Perce Trail Mountain Biking
This trip is a unique combination of our six-day Nez Perce bike trip through the wild and vast 3.4 million-acre wilderness of central Idaho and a three-day Salmon River trip.   On the last day of the bike trip, we’ll turn down into the Salmon River Canyon for an exhilarating bike ride into the Salmon River Canyon.  August 16-24; August 24-Sept 1. 9-days, $1650 per person plus Forest Service User Fees.

Salmon River Rafting/Hiking
This trip is a great way to see the Salmon River Canyon and get an overall feel for its majesty. We begin our trip near Salmon Mountain (elevation, 8,690) in the heart of the 2.5 million acre River of No Return Wilderness.  We hike four to eight miles per day for four days enjoying expansive vistas, camping near mountain lakes, gradually making our way down to the Salmon River.  We’ll spend four days rafting the magnificent Salmon River. August 6-13; August 14-21; August 22-29.  8 days Backpack/River, $1900 plus Forest Service user Fees. Hiking with pack-stock support.  This is the same trip as above except we use pack stock to carry the supplies.  This trip is great for those who enjoy hiking without carrying a backpack.  Hike with horse support/River, 8 days is $2400 plus Forest Service User Fees.

Salmon River Rafting/Hayden Creek Ranch Stay
Hayden Creek Ranch is a 950 acre working cattle ranch located in the Lemhi Mountains, just south of Salmon, Idaho.  The ranch borders BLM and Salmon National Forest land.  The Ranch offers many activities including herding cattle, horseback riding in the mountains and around the ranch, stream fishing, and mountain biking.  On the fourth night, you will dine with your guides in preparation to go on the river.  You will spend the next five nights and six days on the Salmon River camping on her big, beautiful beaches, running exciting whitewater, hiking to pioneer homesteads, and soaking in hot springs.  July 12-21; August 13-21; $2200 per person plus Forest Service user Fees.
